Survive & Save Programme Trainer Update
Introduction and Instructions
Welcome to the Survive & Save Programme update.
Please read this page carefully before choosing which update option is the right one for you.
To complete your update:
1. Please register with this update website (click on ‘Register’ in the panel to the left of this page). This website is independent of the main RLSS UK website, so all users must register before continuing.
2. Identify which update you need to complete (1, 2, or 3), by reading the text below.
3. Answer the multiple-choice questionnaire in your update (1, 2, or 3).
4. When you have successfully completed the update, RLSS UK will send you a new Card of Authority.
Don’t worry if you are unsuccessful with your first update, you can take some time to better familiarise yourself with the new resources, and then have another go.
The Survive & Save Programme Instructor Qualifications
There are two Instructor qualifications available for the Survive & Save Programme:
- Lifesaving Instructor qualification – Teach and assess the Survive & Save Programme Awards*
- Lifesaving Instructor Tutor qualification - Teach and assess the Survive & Save Programme Awards*, and teach and assess the Lifesaving Instructor Course (to qualify new Lifesaving Instructors)
*Open water endorsement required for open water awards.
Choosing the Correct Update Option
Lifesaving Trainer Assessors
Lifesaving TAs have a choice regarding which update option to follow:
- Update Option 1 – will qualify you as a Lifesaving Instructor (in addition to your TA qualification).
- Update Option 2 – will qualify you as a Lifesaving Instructor Tutor (in addition to your TA qualification).
Lifesaving Advisors, Mentors, NTAs, and SNTAs
If you hold any of these Lifesaving training qualifications please complete Update Option 1. Following your successful completion of the update you will have the Lifesaving Instructor Tutor qualification added to your current training qualifications.
Lifesaving Teachers
If you hold a Lifesaving Teacher qualification, and you hold a Trainer Assessor qualification in another discipline (Pool or Beach), please follow the guidance for Trainer Assessors above.
If you hold a Lifesaving Teacher qualification but do not hold a Trainer Assessor qualification in another discipline, you are required to be observed conducting an assessment before you update to become a Lifesaving Instructor (because as a Lifesaving Instructor you will be able to assess candidates). Please follow the steps below to complete your update:
- Click here to download your Assessment Observation Form
- Complete the assessment with a Lifesaving Trainer Assessor or Lifesaving Tutor.
- Send the completed Assessment Observation Form to RLSS UK HQ.
- Complete Update Option 1.
Pool and Beach TAs, Mentors, NTAs, and SNTAs
If you hold any of these Pool or Beach training qualifications you can gain the Lifesaving Instructor Tutor qualification. Please follow the steps below to complete your update:
- Purchase the Lifesaving Manual for Instructors (you must have your own copy, available from www.lifesaversdirect.co.uk)
- Complete Update Option 3.
